TOSYALI TOYO DOUBLES ITS TIN PRODUCTION CAPACITY

Because of the pandemic, there is a growing need for wholesome, useful, and hygienic packaged food, and steel packaging is being used more and more frequently every day. The demand for packaging steel, which is highly recyclable in comparison to plastics, is growing simultaneously on a global scale. As a result of this development focused on sustainability, Tosyalı Toyo—a joint venture that produces Turkey's first high-tech and high value-added flat steel—will double its tinplate production capacity to 650 thousand tons. Tosyalı Holding is a global steel producer, while Toyo Kohan is a high-tech steel producer from Japan.

With new investments, the joint venture Tosyalı Toyo—a partnership between Japan's high-tech steel producer Toyo Kohan and Turkey's Tosyalı Holding—keeps expanding.

Making the first high-tech, high-value flat steel in Turkey, Tosyalı Toyo has begun investing in tripling its 325 thousand-ton tin production capacity to 650 thousand tons. In this regard, the business will invest in several projects, one of which will be the manufacturing of new Tin Free Steel (also known as tin-free tin).

$200 million investment

By the end of 2023, the additional capacity increase of about $200 million is expected to be put into service.

Tosyalı Toyo's investment to expand the capacity of high-tech steel packaging is crucial for satisfying customer demands and keeping up with the growing demand for hygienic, convenient, and healthy packaged food in Turkey and around the world as a result of the pandemic.

Turkey's first high-tech and high value-added flat steel is produced by Tosyalı Toyo, which employs nearly 900 people and occupies a 250 thousand square meter facility in Osmaniye. Producing tinplate, galvanized sheet, painted sheet, cold rolled sheet, and acid-oiled coils, Tosyalı Toyo began commercial production in May 2017 and has a rolling capacity of one million tons.

Tosyalı Toyo produces goods for a broad spectrum of applications, spanning from the construction industry to electrical household appliances, from white goods to automotive, and serving not only Turkey but also a vast region spanning from Europe to the Caucasus and from the Middle East to North Africa. A substantial amount of the products that are currently imported will be met domestically thanks to Tosyalı Toyo's new investment, significantly reducing the current account deficit.
