TOSYALI HOLDING CONTINUES TO WORK FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LIFE IN THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE
In spite of the devastating earthquake, Tosyalı Holding has begun production at the largest industrial investment in Turkey's Iskenderun, the Tosyalı Demir Çelik Sarıseki Facility. Additionally, the company is helping to revitalize the social and economic life of the area by building roofing pergola systems for 220 shops in Tosyalı Bazaar and Iskenderun Grand Bazaar, which were established with the construction of 17 trade houses near Iskenderun Havuzlu Bazaar.
Turkey's leading global steel manufacturer, Tosyalı Holding, is still working to rebuild social and economic life in the earthquake-affected area.
With locations in Iskenderun and Osmaniye, Tosyalı Holding has supported the local population since the earthquake's early aftermath while also investing in the area's economic revival. It helps the local craftsmen and keeps people in their houses so they can carry on with their lives.
"We will continue to stand by our people and tradesmen for the continuation of social and economic life in the region," stated Fuat Tosyalı, chairman of Tosyalı Holding.
The chairman of Tosyalı Holding's board of directors, Fuat Tosyalı, declared that they had been on the ground since the first day of the earthquake. He said, "We were in the field from the very beginning with a team of over a thousand employees and our entire management, especially myself. For us as a business that operates in the area, it was an extremely challenging procedure. We were shaken by the profound pain of losing our coworkers, their families, and relatives even though there was nothing wrong with our facilities. We banded together to heal our wounds with our 6,000 employees in İskenderun and Osmaniye. In the area, we set up a mobile bread bakery that turns out 22,000 pieces a day. Six thousand people received daily food support from us until the first week of July. We provided our employees with specially designed containers—which are not the same as standard prefabricated containers—made of materials appropriate for the local climate and equipped with everything needed to meet the necessities of a house, complete with all the necessary infrastructure. We also fixed a private school that had been harmed in the area. We also helped to bring back one of our cultural treasures, the Antakya Civilizations Choir."
"We continued to invest in Tosyalı Demir Çelik Sarıseki Facility, one of the largest industrial investments in Turkey, without slowing down," Fuat Tosyalı said, adding that the ability of people to remain in the area and rebuild their lives is the most important issue for them. We employed 621 people in our other companies in the area, in addition to the 1500 people we employed in our Sarıseki facility, where we began production in the first of two Quantum furnaces. We opened new trading houses with Tosyalı Çarşı in order to support our tradesmen who were impacted by the earthquake. With the pergola systems we constructed, we also helped the AFAD-renovated İskenderun Grand Bazaar Business Center. For us, what matters most is that people continue to live their lives here and that the region's business community recovers while people's hurts are addressed. Our economy depends on our skilled craftsmen, and we will always support them."
For Iskenderun traders, Tosyalı Bazaar became a new source of hope.
Tosyalı Holding is still assisting the craftsmen in order to boost the local economy. After 17 trade houses were built close to Iskenderun Havuzlu Bazaar, Tosyalı Bazaar was created. For the tradesmen who lost their jobs and had their shops destroyed by the earthquake, it has become a new hope. The 24 m2 steel structures with light profile and bordex coating that make up these commercial buildings are also earthquake-resistant. The İskenderun District Governorate oversaw the distribution of the commercial houses in Tosyalı Bazaar.
Tosyalı provides additional support for the Iskenderun Grand Bazaar Business Center.
In addition, Tosyalı Holding provided funding for AFAD to reconstruct the İskenderun Grand Bazaar Business Center, which was devastated by the earthquake. For 220 stores in the İskenderun Grand Bazaar, Tosyalı Holding constructed front façade roofing pergola systems covering 1.890 m2. As a result, the Wooden Membrane Roof System was installed on the front sides of the temporary offices set up in the İskenderun Grand Bazaar Business Center, giving them a more contemporary and functional appearance.
There will be no more imports of 4 million tonnes of flat steel from Turkey.
The Tosyalı Demir Çelik Sarıseki Plant, which will generate qualified and green steel in the İskenderun 2nd Organized Industrial Zone, is nearing completion of Tosyalı Holding's investment. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies and adhering to Industry 4.0, the USD 2.5 billion Tosyalı Demir Çelik Sarıseki Plant investment will position Turkey ahead of the competition in the iron and steel market worldwide. With this plant, Tosyalı is also the first company in Turkey to use Quantum Furnace technology, which reduces the amount of electrical energy used. In recent months, production has begun in the first of the two Quantum furnaces at the Sarıseki Plant. In addition to being wholly focused on sustainability, this investment will eradicate Turkey's 4 million tonnes of flat steel imports and serve as an excellent illustration of value-added steel production coupled with green steel production. The facility's carbon footprint will be 20% less than that of conventional arc furnaces and 70% less than that of blast furnaces thanks to sustainability investments made.
With the support of Tosyalı, Antakya Civilizations Choir continues to perform live.
Under the sponsorship of Tosyalı Holding, the Antakya Civilizations Choir, which suffered the loss of seven members in the profoundly felt earthquake that struck our nation on February 6, 2023, will continue to perform throughout Turkey until the end of the current year. The Antakya Civilisations Choir will continue to perform concerts while healing from its wounds, thanks to the support of Tosyalı Holding, after a process that resulted in nearly all of the choir members losing their first-degree relatives, many of them losing their homes and places of employment, the association building where the choir was working being destroyed, and all of their belongings, including costumes and musical instruments, being left in the rubble.
