TOSYALI HOLDİNG PUBLISHES SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

TOSYALI HOLDİNG PUBLISHES SUSTAINABILITY REPORT, BREAKING NEW GROUND IN THE WORLD WITH GREEN STEEL PRODUCTION

With its sustainability-oriented change and transformation movement, Tosyalı Holding, Turkey's leading global steel producer, is still achieving the first and largest green steel production projects in the world. Tosyalı Holding is a global leader in value-added green steel production, investing billions of dollars in new facilities across the globe. Its solar and hydrogen production projects are state-of-the-art. The chairman of Tosyalı Holding's board of directors, Fuat Tosyalı, stated: "We worked with expert organizations, included all stakeholders, and took into account international standards and global indices to prepare our sustainability strategy and roadmap." In compliance with GRI guidelines, we also released our sustainability report. We are dedicating all of our significant investments in one of the most significant global industries, steel, to the production of green steel. To make carbon-free steel, we are extensively remodeling our current facilities. With an installed capacity of 235 MW, we are implementing the largest solar power plant project in the world with an investment of USD 120 million. Our projected SPP investments will enable us to obtain 50% of our electricity needs by 2025 from our own production. As a result of the research we have started, we will be one of the few businesses worldwide to transition to producing all hydrogen with zero carbon emissions. As we embark on our long-term journey, "Tosyalı for Sustainable Life," we are doing everything in our power to inspire everyone by setting new standards for the production of green steel and exporting positive examples to every country in the world."

With its sustainability-oriented change and transformation movement, which it started with nearly 40 facilities and about 15,000 employees on three continents, Turkey's largest steel producer, Tosyalı Holding, remains one of the most exemplary and emulated groups in the world.

Tosyalı Holding has been investing in sustainability for a long time and is currently executing the largest and first green steel production-focused projects globally. Over the past few years, Tosyalı Holding has implemented over 100 sustainability projects using innovation, technology, and R&D studies. Its steel plant has also achieved a 30% reduction in carbon emissions.

Tosyalı Holding is pioneering the use of solar energy and hydrogen in production globally, having invested billions of dollars in new facilities for qualified and environmentally friendly steel production worldwide.

"Sustainability is like riding a bicycle, but you continue your journey by pedaling," said Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding.

"Iron and steel is with us at every point of our lives," stated Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tosyalı Holding, emphasizing that the industry is one of the most important sectors globally and that sustainability investments made here can initiate a major change despite their significant costs. In the infrastructure and superstructure of our buildings, cars, white goods, electronics, and numerous other tools. Because of this, we say that "if we change, the world changes." Tosyalı Holding has long since made sustainability a top priority because we recognize it and our responsibility towards it. Our top priority for the next five years will also be sustainability. Our sector is one of the main engines of the world economy. As a result, changes in the steel industry not only have an impact on other sectors, but they also come at a much higher cost. Sustainability may be significantly improved in some industries by making small changes, but in ours, sustainability must be achieved from beginning to end. While the price tag is certainly exorbitant, the benefits are significant enough to serve as a model for other industries. That's why I believe that sustainability will become permanent as a result of our change. I compare riding a bicycle to sustainability in our industry. The only way to maintain your balance and carry on with your journey is to pedal. You cannot advance while stopping and starting again or while someone is pushing you from the outside. We are volunteers of sustainability, I can say that as a company that has witnessed where sustainability can lead us over the last four to five years. We do not consider it to be a task or a requirement. For a better future and a sustainable way of life, we volunteer."

Oversees sustainability through three distinct impact areas

Tosyalı Holding, which recently released its sustainability report in compliance with GRI standards, developed its sustainability strategy and roadmap in collaboration with specialized organizations, involving all stakeholders and accounting for global indices and international standards. These studies led to Tosyalı Holding managing sustainability issues under three distinct impact areas: "Future of Business," "Carbon-Free Steel," and "Responsible Ecosystem Management."

Recognized as one of the manufacturers with the least environmental impact

Using clean energy sources in production and transforming production processes with a focus on sustainability are just two of the many activities that Tosyalı Holding engages in. It still uses solar energy to replace fossil fuels and produces hydrogen with no carbon emissions. A while back, it obtained the International I-REC Certificate (Green Energy Certificate), certifying that the electricity it uses is generated from renewable sources. Furthermore, Tosyalı attested to being among the manufacturers with the least carbon footprint by obtaining product-based EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certificates in its hot rolled sheet, ERW, and spiral facilities.

"As a company with the largest rooftop SPP project in the world, we will generate 50% of the electricity we use ourselves," stated Fuat Tosyalı, chairman of Tosyalı Holding.

Declaring that their production is centered on clean and renewable energy sources and that they want to create a system in which fossil fuels are never used in the long run, Speaking, Fuat Tosyalı stated, "We have long been solar energy investors. By investing in all of our facilities at once, we were able to achieve a total installed capacity of 235 MW with the Tosyalı SPP project that we started last year. With our rooftop power plants, we are the company that has the biggest rooftop solar power plant (SPP) globally. Using cutting-edge materials and the purlin connection technique during installation, this project is the world's newest rooftop solar power plant equipped with the newest technology. Conversely, our project, with its annual production of 250 million Kw/h, will be the largest rooftop solar power plant in the world. By the end of this year, when the project is completed, we will have achieved the cleanest and greenest steel production in the world, saving about 182 million kg of carbon emissions. Our project will be the largest rooftop solar energy project in the world, with an investment cost of 120 million dollars, and it will be realized at a much lower cost than similar projects. Our projected SPP investments will enable us to obtain 50% of our electricity needs by 2025 from our own production. Our combined renewable energy goal as Tosyalı is to install 3 Gwatts of power in the medium term."

The chairman of Tosyalı Holding's board of directors, Fuat Tosyalı: "Our goal is to be the first steel company in our region and one of the few in the world that produces with hydrogen."

"We have conducted our R&D studies and pilot trials," Fuat Tosyalı stated, indicating that they have taken steps to use green hydrogen as the primary energy source in production. Our medium-term goal is to have hydrogen as the primary fuel in our Turkish facilities. In order to achieve our aim of using green hydrogen, the clean electricity we produce ourselves will be complementary to our target of producing electricity from renewable sources. A system that can burn hydrogen and transfer it to work without losing its high-capacity energy has been developed. Electricity is required for this. For this hydrogen-focused process, a portion of the electricity produced by the SPP we installed will be utilized. However, as part of our fourth stage investments, our second DRI plant in Tosyalı, Algeria, will be able to run entirely on hydrogen once it is finished. Being one of the few companies in the world with this technology, Tosyalı Holding will be the first Turkish company to invest in it. With these investments, we hope to become the first steel company in our area and one of the few in the world to produce steel using hydrogen," he stated.

Investments in innovation and technology can reduce carbon emissions by up to 70%.

In order to meet its goals for producing steel that is carbon-free, Tosyalı Holding is investing heavily in innovation and technology. With an emphasis on sustainability, Tosyalı Holding's $2.5 billion İskenderun Sarıseki investment in the İskenderun 2nd Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), which just began its first production, is a facility that will produce qualified and green steel. This state-of-the-art facility with Industry 4.0 compliance will give Tosyalı Holding an advantage over competitors worldwide. Using this facility, Tosyalı became Turkey's first user of the lower electrical energy consumption Quantum Furnace technology. This facility, which has a carbon footprint 20% lower than traditional arc furnaces and 70% lower than blast furnaces, is one of the best examples in the world for sustainability-oriented investments.

"We consider climate-related risks and related actions as our top priority in our operational investments," stated Fuat Tosyalı, chairman of Tosyalı Holding.

One of our primary goals when producing and investing is "Responsible Ecosystem Management" because there are people, society, and the environment—that is, a vast ecosystem that we touch while producing. Fuat Tosyalı proceeded with his remarks, saying, "Even the tiniest particle of dust signifies responsibility for us." Undoubtedly, we must consider from the outset how to use all materials in production in a way that benefits both the environment and society. We are attempting to change the ecosystem as a result, beginning with our own facilities, by working on a variety of fronts, including the circular economy and energy and water efficiency. Priority concerns in this field include supply chain management, water risk and risk assessment, circular production, and ethical investment practices. Our suppliers are included in the sustainability transformation and we communicate with them on a regular basis. When it comes to our operational investments, we give climate-related risks and related actions first priority. Both carbon emissions and water hazards are actively managed."

Among the leading circular economy businesses worldwide as well as in Turkey

Together with Tosyalı Harsco, Tosyalı Holding, one of the leading businesses in Turkey and the world for circular economy, injects 1.2 million tons of waste slag into the economy. Slag is typically a waste material, but thanks to the recycling process carried out at its facilities, it can be used as a raw material and additive in a variety of industries, including construction, cement manufacturing, and asphalt road filling. Additionally, the company set up a facility inside the Tosçelik Osmaniye plant to screen and clean two million tons of scrap. The same facility is used to recover aluminum, stainless steel, and copper from scrap. Using its own machines, Tosyalı Harsco provides the industry with additional services by cleaning slag beneath furnaces.

Makes use of water, air, and even dust in a circular economy

A major concern in industry, water efficiency is another area in which Tosyalı develops a lot of projects. Through the use of closed circuit systems and water cooling, it minimizes losses. By assuring resource efficiency, it hopes to recover 60% of the water it uses in two years, ensuring sustainable water use. Tosyalı has discovered a way to add value to chimney dust that is long-lasting. Reverse air is used to collect chimney dust from filters. There is a 25% to 28% concentration of zinc oxide in this flue dust. Zinc factories receive this collected flue dust. Additionally, Tosyalı is aiming to build the world's first facility that will use cutting-edge technology to separate the elements in flue dust without producing any waste that harms the environment.

Three continents are home to Tosyalı Academy, which trains skilled and qualified laborers.

In order to invest in the future of work, Tosyalı focuses on building a work environment that its employees will love, where they can better use and develop their talents and do good things for the world. This is part of its sustainability goals. Under this framework, Tosyalı Academy helps develop skilled laborers on three distinct continents through training. The Academy organizes both technical and vocational training. The Basic Training School hosts project trainings, competency trainings, and orientation sessions. The Online Campus portal supports every step of the training process. Using the Tosyalı VR virtual reality app, facilities can be visited. Tosyalı Holding, in addition to Tosyalı Academy, seeks to better its workforce by offering development programs, working to increase the proportion of female employees, and a host of other beneficial initiatives. It also wants to boost employee loyalty to 80%.

"The Artist in Residence Program promotes sustainability in the arts."

Sustainability in art has recently become a focus for Tosyalı Holding, which has brought schools, health facilities, and many other works to the society through numerous socially beneficial projects. With this in mind, it supported the 100th birthday celebration of renowned sculptor İlhan Koman at the 16th Contemporary Istanbul in 2021. 2022 saw prominent artists from Turkey and around the globe stay at Contemporary Istanbul as part of their "Artist in Residence Program." Artists went to the Tosyalı Holding facilities in Osmaniye and chose the materials they would use to make their pieces. September's 17th Contemporary Istanbul showcased the artists' captivating creations made from scrap and used iron and steel products for art enthusiasts to view. For social investments, Tosyalı Holding set aside 834 million TL in 2022 alone.
